From much personal experience, I would not recommend any sort of dysentary for weight loss. It's too temporary, comes back after a few weeks. I would suggest mixing all your favorite foods with Salmonella so you develop an intense nausea whenever you see or smell them.

Tape worms remove a disproportionate amount of B vitamins. Please, consult your local quack for the appropriate over priced supplements. The worms can be obtained for free by wondering around farms in sandals (no socks for a faster result).

Of course the first trick is to not consume those holiday calories. On Thanksgiving I always skip the mashed potatoes because I like stuffing more. My mother-in-law is big on multiple vegetable dishes... so I load up on the red cabbage and brussels sprouts.

Unfortunately I am a sucker for pumpkin pie. I love real pumpkin pie made with real cream (which I insist on making because sister-in-law puts weird stuff on the pie like nuts, and (horror!) uses canned pumpkin pie mix!). Well, I did make the pie from sugar pumpkins I roasted myself.

Sigh, more long walks and swims for me. At least on the walks I can catch up on SGU podcasts.

You could always try what I did in my younger days. Suit up in a Tyvek coverall, boots, gloves, full-face respirator and a 30-40lb backpack unit and spray greenhouses in the Florida sun...

You can lose 5 lbs in an hour. :)

Typhoid also works great. 40 lbs in 3 wks, and another 3 wks to learn to walk again.

I'm always surprised that people actually believe that there is a magic solution, a pill or cleanse that will allow them to carry on eating at McDo and be a size two.

On the other hand, if you eat too much fruit . . .
leave the acai berries to the Brazilians and have a nice orange, or an apple.

Jeebus! A 500-calorie diet would melt the flesh off one's bones without the need for added anything! But it's not exactly healthy.

Who said amoebas?
The last case (I always seem to get them in posh hotels) was funny. I had good appetite, no pains, only mild fever... and whatever I ate got out in half an hour untouched by the digestive processes. I had never eaten that much bacon and eggs in my life. And, also, campylobacter et al. are good for my skin. I get antibiotics to treat them... and then my acne also goes away.

Acai is an antioxidant flavonoid that may confer mild anti-inflammatory benefits (PMID: 18717569) like other pieces of fruit, only it's flown in from the amazons. I think we should focus on getting people to eat more fruits/vegetables period and instead of shipping over so-called "super" fruits.

I'd like to request someone write about the HCG weight loss craze that's going on. A lot of my friends have started these programs, are losing weight fast and swear that the HCG diminishes their hunger/cravings. However, I haven't been able to find any research studies addressing safety/efficacy/mechanism of action of administering HCG with a low (500) calorie diet.

I can see Husky Stadium from our house... the people going past our house after a game have often been very somber. Have a Ducky New Year!

On the same line as EricD and Sir Eccles, I can personally recommend mild gastroenteritis - it helped me lose 5 pounds, and I kept it off for 5 months, with just a little limiting my diet and exercising.
