It seems like this could also be used by people who haven't lost complete leg control, but just need assistance with overall strength or in specific situations. There was a period of several years during which my grandfather could walk on flat ground, but he would get tired quickly and he had trouble with stairs, kneeling to get dropped objects, etc. One hour of battery life is short if you rely on it for 100% of your mobility, but it might be plenty running at half power or for short moments which are interrupting your independence.

W.L.U.:
That sounds dangerous given that George Bush was too busy with gays and stem cells to sign the ban on Barbara Streisand mech research.

Wow, 27 pounds for that device? That must be an amazing light and strong material. Thanks for the overview! I find prosthetic's really interesting, always wished I'd known more about the field before going into art.

"There is also a weight limit, so overweight paraplegics, those over 220 pounds, cannot use the device. In short, users need to be fairly physically fit"

In all fairness to any really tall persons, I feel compelled to point out that it's possible to be over 220 pounds and not overweight.

"The exoskeleton allows for a significant increase in independent mobility for the user. This can be significantly helpful in getting paraplegics mobile, which would be advantageous to overall health and reduce the risk of certain complications, like bed sores."

To say nothing of the psychological and social benefits.

"but we are inching closer to the day when such devices will essentially restore function and mobility to the paralyzed."

Could someone spend a few moments addressing advances in nerve regeneration that might compete in some situations with orthotics?
