Support Cancer Research and Own a Piece of the SkepDoc’s Handiwork

I donated a knit afghan to the auction by Skeptics for the Protection of Cancer Patients. I made it myself. Proceeds go to cancer research in the name of Stanislaw Burzynski as a birthday present to publicize his many misdeeds against cancer patients.  It’s warm and cuddly. Please consider bidding to reward my MANY hours of work and support cancer research.  You are welcome to call me a “knit-wit.” Click here to bid.

Harriet Hall – Oh my gosh, what a beautiful piece! I’m deeply envious of it’s future owner AND your skills.

Oh Dr. Hall — that is such a beautiful piece! I will bid! And publicize the auction.

    OK, posted this

http://lizditz.typepad.com/i_speak_of_dreams/2013/01/bid-on-this-beautiful-afghan-and-raise-money-for-real-cancer-research.html and broadcast via Twitter and Facebook.

I also suggested a link to the auction to BoingBoing, a site that has covered Burzynski’s antics regularly, as in http://boingboing.net/2012/11/11/on-stanislaw-burzynski-anti.html.

OK, I am all about the metrics.

The page for the auction has as of 1:14 pm, PST, has had 4 bids with a top bid of $155 and has had 196 page views. Can we whip up a bidding war?

@lizditz – I did pin and like the auction on FB for friends of mine who may be interested.

Dr. Hall, I made the same blanket for a wedding present for a dear friend! I didn’t know you were a knitter. I used to have a yarn shop called Knitwit. :-)

Dr. Hall, I made the same (or similar–I think the border was a bit different on mine) blanket for a wedding present for a dear friend! I didn’t know you were a knitter. I used to have a yarn shop called Knitwit. :-)

  8. [...] cancer, which is in marked contrast to Burzynski. Harriet Hall has joined in the campaign and is auctioning off a beautiful, hand-knit afghan, knitted by the SkepDoc herself, the proceeds to go to the campaign. If you want to bid on it, [...]

    Harriet,

Is the afghan doped with antineoplastons? If so I think we can bump the price up to a few thousand dolllars!

    :)

“Is the afghan doped with antineoplastons?”

No, wish I’d thought of that! :-)
It is, however, effective for preventing hypothermia.

Hmmm… I can’t help but wonder if someone will see that auction listing and get the idea that Burzynski actually is some honored cancer researcher. “Oh look, a bunch of science advocates are having this doctor match their donations.”

It mentions the high “cost of entering one of his clinical trials”, but people might not understand exactly how messed up that is. It could at least say something like “the approximate initial price he charges people to be test subjects in his trials of an unproven drug”. Also helpful would be a link to some page which explains exactly what is going on. Raising money on someone’s birthday and asking them to donate is an unusual way of trying to prove some point, so it really ought to be explained.

    @Conspicuous Carl,
    “ought to be explained”

    It is explained here http://thehoustoncancerquack.com/
Dr. Gorski posted that link in his article.

That’s good, but it isn’t in the auction listing and not all ebay users searching for trees or blankets have read Gorski’s blog.

I didn’t write the auction listing. I’ll pass your comments on.

Oh, so many knitters around here? Count me to the bunch. And I’m on Ravelry under the same name as here, should anyone be interested.
