Scott GavuraScott Gavura, BScPhm, MBA, RPh, is passionate about improving the way drugs are used. A pharmacist by background, Scott works in the Ontario cancer system, managing and optimizing the use of very expensive cancer therapies. He has a professional interest is improving the cost-effective use of drugs at the population level. Scott holds a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy degree, and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Toronto, and has completed a Accredited Canadian Hospital Pharmacy Residency Program. His professional background includes pharmacy work in community and hospital settings. Scott has also held senior roles with government and professional associations, in roles focused primarily on evaluating new drugs, which is where his personal interest in critical appraisal and pharmacoeconomics was stoked. Scott is a registered pharmacist in Ontario.

Due to his frustration with the pharmacy profession’s growing embrace of pseudoscientific products and practices, and inspired by the work of the Science-Based Medicine team, Scott started the Science-Based Pharmacy blog in 2009 to scrutinize pharmacy practices, and to begin a discussion within the profession about its obligations as a health profession.
